The Blues Underground closed, but
Headliners now open |
Dear Blues Fans .....
The Blues Underground is no more. It will be
truly missed. It has been good to all of us and we are very grateful for all
the players, listeners, supporters that have enjoyed it along the way. It’s
been a blast.
The Blues Underground began as the Nanaimo
Blues Society's Community Outreach project and thanks to the sweat equity of
many of our members, 10 Lois Lane was transformed from a grubby graffiti
covered basement full of trash into a funky Blues Can which opened in 2007.
It was so successful that it took on a life of its own, grew bigger than the
Society, as a volunteer organization could handle, and, in 2009,
responsibility for the space was taken over by Sky High Productions.
Now the Blues are moving to a new space, which doesn't flood
and which has heat, air, parking, wheelchair accessibility, zoning for
performances of up to 120 people, plus many other wonderful things.
On January 4, 2010, the new HEADLINERS opened its doors to
the community at 165 Fraser Street (Beside Mrs. Riches) still in downtown
Nanaimo. There, Sky High Productions,
will continue with all of their regular programming: jams, after school, the
academy, performances, events, lessons and now much more.
The Nanaimo Blues All Stars will also still
host a Blues Jam night each
Thursday with doors opening at 7:30 pm. We hope you will continue to support
them and take a turn yourself up on stage.
The Nanaimo Blues Society is proud to have
been the instigator of the Blues Underground and we know the spirit of the
Blues will continue to roll at HEADLINERS.
